 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  NSCDC:Anambra State Commandant Conducts On The Spot Assessment To JAMB CBT Examination Centers In Awka

The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,  Comdt. Maku Olatunde A. on April 24, conducted an on the spot assessment to several JAMB CBT examination centers in Awka, assessing security arrangements and interacting with deployed personnel.


According to SC Okadigbo Edwin, Head, Media and Tactical NSCDC Anambra State Command, the visited centers, including JAMB Office ICT Center, St. Patrick's College Awka, and St. John of God Awka, reported smooth proceedings with robust security, zero incidents, and JAMB officials assisting candidates.


"Commandant Maku, during his visit to the exam centers, emphasized the importance of maintaining a professional demeanor, urging officers and men to remain courteous and respectful in their interactions with candidates, thereby ensuring a positive experience for all.


"Interacting with personnel at the centers, Commandant Maku stressed the need for politeness and civility, reminding them that their conduct would reflect not only on themselves but also on the entire security agency.


"I commend you for your diligence and professionalism in ensuring a secure and peaceful JAMB examination process" he said.


Meanwhile, a separate monitoring team, led by Deputy Commandants Prominence Ukaobi, Akaachia Godwin and  Alada Yakubu, was deployed to oversee security at JAMB centers outside Awka Metropolis.
