 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. Oshiomhole Convinced Us To Make Obaseki Governor – Philip Shaibu


Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has disclosed that his choice to support his former boss, Godwin Obaseki, stemmed from his respect for Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Naija News, Shaibu shared his doubts about Obaseki during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm program on Tuesday.


Shaibu admitted that he lacked confidence in Obaseki's leadership even before they took office on November 12, 2016. He explained that despite his initial hesitations, he ultimately backed Obaseki out of respect and based on the assurances provided by Oshiomhole.


He stated, “Obaseki is not a politician. We made him governor because Oshiomhole persuaded us. I was not among those who thought he should not be governor; it was because I didn’t have faith in him.


“When he was nominated to run, I was the last person to oppose him, but out of respect, I was swayed. We were told, and Comrade predicted accurately, that we needed him because we were entering a recession and required someone with an economic background and private sector experience. We trusted Comrade, but we didn’t trust him.”


Reflecting on their first term, Shaibu noted that they dismantled their political structure to support Obaseki, believing in Oshiomhole’s vision for the state, but the situation changed significantly during the second term.


He added, “We broke down our structure and gave him everything. The second term was a completely different scenario; it was a time of godfatherism in Edo State.”
