At 11:45 a.m. on April 10th, officers in Glenville, West Virginia responded to a local home. Once on scene, officers observed a small child who was in distress on the roof of the home.
According to responding officers, the child was "hunched over from the cold rain, crying and scared". The officers on scene made entry into the home, and after unlocking several doors and smashing a window, were able to rescue the child from the roof. The child was determined to be a 3-year-old boy.
While inside of the home, officers also discovered another young boy. The second child was in a crib inside of a locked room... Officers reported both children were "covered in feces from the waist down". They also stated there was fecal matter caked on the walls and appeared to have been that way for a long time.
Police made contact with the parents 29-year-old Mason Adkins and 25-year-old Sonya Adkins. The couple claimed to have no knowledge that their child was cold and crying on the roof. They claimed they were sleeping and hadn't checked on the children since 8 p.m. the previous evening. They both said they had stayed up all night playing video games.
Mason Adkins and Sonya Adkins were both arrested and charged with one count of conspiracy and two counts of child neglect creating risk of serious injury or death.
They were booked into Central Regional Jail and are being held on a $50,000 bond.
