Tesla, led by billionaire Elon Musk, has officially entered the Saudi market with the opening of its first showrooms in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam.
The launch, announced Thursday, comes as Tesla’s global sales decline and its U.S. presence faces challenges. Country Manager Naseem Akbarzada confirmed that EV charging stations will begin operating in the three cities starting Friday.
Despite low demand for electric vehicles due to cheap fuel and limited infrastructure, the Saudi EV market tripled last year, with government plans to install 5,000 chargers by 2030.
Economist Mohammed Al-Qahtani praised Tesla’s entry but called for deeper investment: “We don’t want just a showroom; we want a factory.”
Saudi Arabia has been pushing EV production, with major investments in Lucid Motors, Hyundai, and the local EV brand CEER.
