 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Trump's Envoy Steve Witkoff Meets Putin in Moscow Amid Ukraine Peace Efforts


Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump's envoy, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Friday during what Trump has described as a pivotal moment in efforts to end the war in Ukraine.


WITKOFF has become Washington’s primary channel for communication with Putin as Trump works to broker a peace agreement, having already held three extensive meetings with the Russian leader.


Putin was joined by his foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, and investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev.


This visit comes just a day after Trump condemned a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv that left at least 12 dead, urging on social media: "Vladimir, STOP!"


Despite the attack, Trump stated that substantial progress had been made in peace negotiations.


“These next few days will be crucial. Talks are ongoing, and I believe we’re very close to reaching an agreement,” Trump remarked.
