 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. Two Arrested for Criminal Conspiracy and Theft


On 29 March 2025 at about 1900 hours, Yahaza Haruna, a 41-year-old resident of the Gidan Gona area in Bauchi Metro, reported to the Command that earlier that same day, at about 1800 hours, he parked his motor vehicle, a green 2000 model Honda Civic with registration number ALK-627-GG, at Yelwan Tudu market. Upon his return, he discovered the vehicle was missing and suspected theft by unknown individuals, prompting him to notify the police.


Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives was assigned to investigate the matter and recover the stolen vehicle. Subsequently, the detectives intercepted the stolen car along the Maiduguri bypass near Awala roundabout. The vehicle was found with two individuals identified as follows:


1. Ibrahim Uzeru, a 30-year-old resident of Kashere Santuraki, Akko Local Government Area, Gombe State

2. John Paul  35-year-old resident of the Bayan Gari area, Bauchi State.


During interview, neither individual could provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the vehicle, resulting in their arrest for further investigation.


During interrogation, one of the suspects, Mr Ibrahim Uzeru, admitted to have received the stolen vehicle from his employer and mentioned that he had invited Mr John Paul to accompany him to Durum and hand over the vehicle to an undisclosed individual. Uzeru also indicated that he had promised Mr. John Paul a sum of twenty thousand naira (₦20,000) as his reward.


The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc(+), mni, has directed that the case be charged to court upon completing the investigation.
