TWO DROWNED IN DAMATURU EARLY MORNING DOWNPOUR The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that two people drowned in Damaturu, the state capital, following an early morning downpour. The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Isa Haruna and 18-year-old Abba Kyari. According to SEMA, the tragic incidents occurred in the Malam Matari and Pompomari areas of Damaturu. The agency said its Search and Rescue Team, working in collaboration with the Yobe State Fire Service, responded promptly after receiving distress alerts. However, upon arrival at the affected locations, rescue officials found that both victims had already died. Their remains were evacuated and transported to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu. SEMA has urged residents, particularly those living in flood-prone communities, to exercise caution during heavy rainfall and to avoid attempting to cross flooded roads or drainage channels. UK SECONDARY SCHOOLS WILL START SCREENING NETFLIX'S HIT SHOW ADOLESCENCE AS PART OF A GOVERNMENT-SPONSORED PROGRAM TO TEACH STUDENTS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF MISOGYNY. (PHOTO).

UK secondary schools will start screening Netflix’s hit show Adolescence as part of a government-sponsored program to teach students about the dangers of misogyny.

The show, praised for its sensitive portrayal of complex issues, will be used in classrooms to spark discussions about harmful online influences. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who watched the series with his teenage children, said it was a powerful tool to help young people navigate modern challenges.

Starmer emphasized the importance of addressing the content young people consume and the conversations they have with their peers. He stated that by listening to young people and charities, society can better understand and tackle the issues raised in the show. The initiative comes amid growing concerns over children’s exposure to extreme misogynistic content online, particularly from controversial influencers like Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, who face serious criminal accusations.

Adolescence follows the Miller family as their world is turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie is accused of murdering his classmate. The intense investigation explores themes of truth, justice, and family. The four-episode series is unique in its format, with each episode shot in a single continuous take, adding to its gripping storytelling.

Directed by Philip Barantini and written by Jack Thorne alongside actor Stephen Graham, the show features a stellar cast including Graham, Erin Doherty, Owen Cooper, and Faye Marsay. Produced by Warp Films, Plan B Entertainment, and others, Adolescence has been widely praised for its performances and storytelling, making it a compelling choice for this new educational initiative.
