 Anambra Govt Warns Against Purchase of Encroached Land at Trans-Nkissi By MaryAnn Chukwuma The Anambra State Ministry of Lands has warned members of the public against purchasing plots at TransNkissi Phase 1, behind the Federal Government Girls College, Onitsha, from persons claiming ownership on behalf of the Umuosodi family of Onitsha. The warning was contained in a public notice dated Sept. 28, 2026, with Ref. No. PS/ML/2026/CR/VOL.II/028 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Nkeiru Mokwe, for the Commissioner. According to the notice, the Ministry became aware that persons alleged to be members of the Umuosodi family had invaded and commenced clearing portions of the land with the intention of selling them to unsuspecting members of the public. It said compensatory plots had been allocated to the family and other families in Onitsha before the current administration.  Zambia president pardons ex-defence minister jailed for corruption


Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema has pardoned former defence minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, popularly known as GBM, who has been serving a five-year prison sentence for corruption, TRT Afrika reported.


Mwamba was freed on medical grounds amid a social media storm on the state of his health in prison.


Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu told journalists on Thursday that the former minister had petitioned the president in February for his release, the public broadcaster ZNBC reports.


Mwamba has withdrawn his appeal against the conviction as part of the conditions for his release, it adds.


Worsening cancer


Last month the former minister moved to court to seek his release on medical grounds in order to receive treatment abroad for worsening prostate cancer, according to local reports.


His lawyers were quoted as saying that the required treatment was unavailable in Zambia.


Mwamba served as defence minister under President Michael Sata's administration from 2011 to 2013. He was Hakainde's running mate in the 2016 presidential election although they lost.
