According to the Indianapolis Police Department, the shooting occurred on Saturday, May 25th at the Baymont Inn on Eagle Drive in Indianapolis.
On that day, the young girl had accompanied a family member to the Baymont Inn.
They had gone there to visit the young girl's mother who was staying at the Inn with 39-year-old Bruce Pierce. While visiting with her daughter, the mother left the room for a short amount of time to carry items to her vehicle.
When she returned, she alleges she witnessed Pierce on top of her daughter. She stated he was in the process of forcibly undressing her and had a gun in one hand.
At this point the mother shouted for Pierce to stop before pulling out her handgun and shooting Pierce.
The mother and daughter then fled the Inn and called 911. After officers responded, the two returned to the scene.
EMS was called for Pierce and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Although Pierce is hospitalized in critical condition, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Bruce Pierce is being charged with confinement of a victim under 14, attempted child m*lestation, possession of a firearm by a serious or violent felon, and attempted r***.
Bruce Pierce was on the Marion County Sheriff's Department S/Offender registry. His level on the registry is listed as a "s*xually violent predator". Pierce was convicted of two counts of child molestation in 2016 and sentenced to prison.
Our thoughts are with this young girl.
It is unclear if the mother will face charges concerning this incident.
