 Sudan war: Army says it inflicts heavy losses on RSF in Darfur, Kordofan Sudan’s army on Friday said that it inflicted heavy losses on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during a series of air and ground operations carried out over the past week in the Darfur and Kordofan regions. In a statement, the military said its forces conducted strikes against RSF positions, destroying around 240 combat vehicles and killing hundreds of fighters, Anadolu Agency reported. The army said the operations also targeted what it described as RSF logistical and operational facilities, including drone-related sites and storage areas, as well as locations at Nyala Airport in South Darfur. It added that ground forces had succeeded in pushing RSF fighters out of wide areas in both Darfur and Kordofan, and that operations were ongoing to pursue remaining elements. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed speculations about a possible 2027 presidential run, firmly stating that he will not contest against President Bola Tinubu.

Wike recently sparked political debate by calling on his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South — a move that many interpreted as a sign he might be preparing to challenge Tinubu. 

However, in an interview with BBC News Pidgin published over the weekend, the former Rivers Governor set the record straight.

“I will not contest. Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?” Wike said, reiterating his loyalty to the current administration.

He further emphasised that no opposition candidate presently stands a realistic chance against President Tinubu. “I will not contest again. I cannot contest against someone I am working with. Who will win except him?” he added.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
