 Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji  The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways. INDIA: A DOCTOR TURNED FRAUDSTER ARRESTED AFTER SEVERAL COMPLAINTS. (PHOTOS).

 Guwahati city police have apprehended Jyotimoy Laskar, a doctor-turned-fraudster accused of swindling lakhs of rupees from several individuals, including medical professionals, through fake work orders. Laskar posed as a supplier of medical equipment and deceived victims by presenting forged documents, transferring the collected funds into his wife’s bank account.


The scam came to light after several complaints were filed against him across Assam, with multiple cases registered in Guwahati, including at the Dispur police station. Laskar had been targeting doctors and medical personnel, taking advantage of their trust to carry out his fraudulent activities.


On the run since August 2023, Laskar had been evading law enforcement for months. However, Guwahati police finally tracked him down and took him into custody, bringing an end to his months-long absconding. Further investigation is underway.
