Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive. Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce, have arrested 74 individuals during a clean-up enforcement operation across several areas in the Lekki axis of Lagos Island.


The operation targeted areas including Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Oniru Beach, Nigerian Law School, Lekki Phase 1 and 2, and the 1004 estate. 


A total of 74 people including 72 men and two women,  were arrested during the exercise as authority helps  restore order and cleanliness in the affected locations.


This was disclosed via a post on the X handle of the Lagos Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab on Tuesday, May 6.


The post reads: Earlier today at about 1a.m, Tuesday, 6th May, 2025 the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce team embarked on its usual clean up enforcement operation around Lekki axis in Lagos Island.


"The areas visited during  the operation includes; Falomo bridge, Eko Hotel roundabout, Oniru Beach, Law School, Lekki Phase 1&2 and 1004 areas where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.

 

"During the raid exercise, a total number of  74 individuals were arrested; 72 male and 2 female, and sanity was restored in all the areas.All the Suspects will be charged to court accordingly."
