 NDPC LAUNCHES FORENSIC DATA PRIVACY INVESTIGATION INTO UNILAG, LOTUS BANK, AND HACKERBELLA The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) is investigating the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lotus Bank, and Hackerbella Ltd. This probe follows complaints that student data was used to open bank accounts without permission. The data sharing was reportedly part of a "Smart ID Card" project that mixed student IDs with bank cards. National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, ordered a full review of how this student information was collected and shared. Investigators are checking if the organizations followed the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023. They will look into the companies' privacy notices, data security, and whether they used automated systems to score or profile students.  NNPCL shuts down Port Harcourt Refinery for maintenance


The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced that the country’s  Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will undergo a planned maintenance shutdown.


The scheduled maintenance and sustainability assessment will commence today, Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd, said in a statement.


He hinted that the NNPCL is working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to ensure that the maintenance and assessment activities are carried out efficiently and transparently.


The statement added: “NNPC Ltd remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering sustainable energy security for Nigeria. Further updates will be provided regularly through our official channels, including our website, media platforms, and public statements.”
