 New Head of Service Urges Anambra Civil Servants to Embrace Efficiency and Accountability ‎ ‎By Chizoba Njaka  ‎ ‎The newly appointed Head of Service in Anambra State, Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, has called on civil servants to shift towards efficiency and accountability, promising improvements in welfare.  ‎ ‎Addressing staff at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex in Awka, Iwouno outlined her vision for a professional, merit-based, and citizen-centered service that aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's goals. ‎ ‎Iwouno emphasized that her mission is not just a statement, but a call to action, demanding sincerity and commitment from all workers. She expressed disappointment with the recent governor's visit, which revealed empty offices during working hours, and stressed that absenteeism, lateness, and poor attitudes are unacceptable. ‎ ‎The Head of Service pledged to improve welfare, including fixing ministry vehicles, and mandated that Wednesday 1st April , 2026 will be clean...

 St.Patrick's Cathedral Parish Awka Celebrates Fathering Sunday In Grand Style

St Patrick's Catholic Cathedral Parish, Awka a model parish in Awka Diocese, celebrated fathers in awe and great dignity.


The occasion featured a mass celebration officiated by the cathedral administrator of the cathedral parish, Rev.Fr. Anthony Nwafor whose homily centred on the sacred role of fathers in the society,church and their families.


Fr.Nwafor charged fathers to sustain their role as responsible fathers and monitor the activities of their children with a view to instilling in them the moral values that will make them responsible leaders of tomorrow.


The cleric called on fathers to champion the fight against all forms of vices, idolatry and crimes in the society, and expressed delight in the steady growth of the CMO in the parish under the leadership of Brother Obinna Anakwuba.


At a reception after the mass, Brother Obinna Anakwuba acknowledged the growth in the numerical strength of fathers in the parish and their effective participation under his watch.


According to the chairman,reforms in his administration in the introduction of sporting and other extracurricular activities have occasioned effective participation of fathers in parish activities so much so that under his supervision,the parish won the 1st position in cultural dance in Awka Deanery one with its famous "Nnadiebube Cultural Dance', and a 3rd position in Table Tennis.


Brother Anakwuba solicited for assistance in the CMO'S demand for a skills acquisition centre to empower at least two of its members with tricycles in batches.


He appreciated the bishop of the diocese, Most Rev.Dr.Paulinus Ezeokafor ,the Cathedral Administrator Rev.Fr.Nwafor ,members of the  Parish Pastoral council,Zones,Priests, religious,patrons and awardees for their supportive gestures to the CMO.


The father of the day, Chief Raphael Onuorah enjoined fathers to arrest the societal decadence.


One of the installed patrons in the parish, Sir Innocent Anyaechi of St.Rita's zone, appreciated the parish for his installation and spoke passionately about his zeal to work in God's vineyard,expecting other fathers to emulate him.


On his part, Sir Emmanuel Okafor who represented Chief Chukwuma Okafor distinguished service awardee, encouraged fathers in the parish to persevere in their sacred duty as pillars in their respective homes.


The Financial Secretary of CMO,St.Patrick's Cathedral Parish Awka,and a greater tomorrow service awardee a member of St Benedict Zone,Mr.Michael Ebere, encouraged young fathers to work towards perfection in their duties as fathers.


In the CMO hall of Fame included the 1st Vice Chairman of St.Patrick's Parish Council, Sir Samuel Nweke who was installed a patron of the CMO ,St.Patrick's Parish Awka,Major Christopher Nwole of St.Albedt's Zone,Sir Eugene Ata of St.Patrick's zone,Sir Chigozie Ijeoma,Chief Jerry Nwabuike of St.Rita's Zone,among others.


In a vote of thanks,the  Chairman Planning Committee of the 2025 Fathering Sunday, Mr.James Uzor(JP) expressed delight that the CMO St.Patrick's  Cathedral Parish, Awka has grown and encouraged fathers to be strict in the upbringing of their children to ameliorate the rising cases of youth involvement in unwholesome practices that are counter productive.


This year's CMO celebration featured events such as quiz competitions, football competitions, cultural night,panel discussion on contemporary issues,tug of war game,among others.
