 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  Suspect Arrested in Cash-in-Transit Robbery


Nyameko Samela (40) has been arrested in connection with a cash-in-transit robbery and attempted murder. He was already in custody for other unrelated matters when the arrest was made.


The charges relate to a robbery that took place in January 2025 at Food Lovers Market in Somerset West. A G4S cash vehicle was collecting money when armed suspects attacked. One of the guards was shot while running back to the vehicle. The suspects fled with two bags of cash estimated at R331,000.


Following an investigation, police identified Samela as a suspect and linked him to the crime. He appeared in the Somerset West Magistrates Court on 15 May 2025. The case has been postponed to 3 July 2025, and he remains in custody.
