 Nicole Kidman recalls the heartbreaking moment she found out her mom died Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreaking moment she learned of her mother Janelle’s death just as she was about to accept a best actress award at the Venice International Film Festival.  The Babygirl star recalled being backstage when she received the news, saying she returned to her room “completely devastated” and unsure how she would move forward without her mother, who had been such a central part of her life. She described the “harrowing” attempt to leave Venice in the middle of the night to return to Australia, only to turn back, overwhelmed and alone.  Director Halina Reijn later read a statement on Kidman’s behalf, dedicating the award to Janelle and acknowledging the collision of art and life in that painful moment.  Suspect Arrested in Cash-in-Transit Robbery


Nyameko Samela (40) has been arrested in connection with a cash-in-transit robbery and attempted murder. He was already in custody for other unrelated matters when the arrest was made.


The charges relate to a robbery that took place in January 2025 at Food Lovers Market in Somerset West. A G4S cash vehicle was collecting money when armed suspects attacked. One of the guards was shot while running back to the vehicle. The suspects fled with two bags of cash estimated at R331,000.


Following an investigation, police identified Samela as a suspect and linked him to the crime. He appeared in the Somerset West Magistrates Court on 15 May 2025. The case has been postponed to 3 July 2025, and he remains in custody.
