 ‘Friend Of A Thief Is A Thief’, Defence Minister Warns Terrorist Sponsors The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), has cautioned Nigerians against aiding terrorists, insurgents, bandits, or other criminal elements, stressing that anyone who supports criminal activities will face the full weight of the law. General Musa made the warning on Saturday while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day 2026 Golf Tournament held at the TYB Golf Resort and Country Club, Yar’Adua Barracks, Abuja.  Tensions flared in Digboi, Assam’s Dibrugarh district, as a local BJP worker, Kalpajyoti Phukan, was publicly shaved by enraged locals in Tingrai market.

 The incident followed a viral phone conversation that angered the Moran community amid growing friction over the upcoming panchayat elections.


The controversy began with a viral video showing independent candidate Junmoni Moran from Ward No. 7 of Borhapjan Panchayat confronting BJP MLA Suren Phukan, accusing him of violating the model code of conduct. The video gained wide attention across social media and news outlets.


Following this, Phukan’s supporters lodged an FIR against Junmoni Moran at Doomdooma Police Station, leading to her arrest and detention. While she was in custody, a separate audio clip emerged featuring a heated conversation between Congress leader Lachit Moran (alias Rajiv) and Nani Gopal Dutta, an aide to MLA Phukan. In the call, BJP worker Kalpajyoti Phukan was heard questioning Lachit Moran’s presence in Tingrai, which was perceived as threatening.


The recording provoked strong backlash from the Moran community. Locals dragged Phukan from his Bogapani home to the Tingrai market, where they forcibly shaved his head in protest. The video of the incident went viral, prompting police to intervene. A scuffle broke out between police and locals, and one individual, Akash Moran, was detained for allegedly inciting the protest. “We are conducting a preliminary investigation and cannot share further details at this moment,” said a police official.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
