 Russia launches massive drone and missile barrage on Ukraine, killing at least 18 civilians and striking Kyiv and multiple cities  Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 18 civilians and wounded more than 100 others across multiple cities, officials said Tuesday. The strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions, with emergency crews working through destroyed residential buildings where some victims were trapped under rubble. In Dnipro, rescuers recovered the bodies of a 3-year-old child and a mother and her 8-year-old son, while officials reported 12 deaths in the city and six in Kyiv. The bombardment stretched from night into daylight, with explosions reported across wide areas of the country.  Tensions flared in Digboi, Assam’s Dibrugarh district, as a local BJP worker, Kalpajyoti Phukan, was publicly shaved by enraged locals in Tingrai market.

 The incident followed a viral phone conversation that angered the Moran community amid growing friction over the upcoming panchayat elections.


The controversy began with a viral video showing independent candidate Junmoni Moran from Ward No. 7 of Borhapjan Panchayat confronting BJP MLA Suren Phukan, accusing him of violating the model code of conduct. The video gained wide attention across social media and news outlets.


Following this, Phukan’s supporters lodged an FIR against Junmoni Moran at Doomdooma Police Station, leading to her arrest and detention. While she was in custody, a separate audio clip emerged featuring a heated conversation between Congress leader Lachit Moran (alias Rajiv) and Nani Gopal Dutta, an aide to MLA Phukan. In the call, BJP worker Kalpajyoti Phukan was heard questioning Lachit Moran’s presence in Tingrai, which was perceived as threatening.


The recording provoked strong backlash from the Moran community. Locals dragged Phukan from his Bogapani home to the Tingrai market, where they forcibly shaved his head in protest. The video of the incident went viral, prompting police to intervene. A scuffle broke out between police and locals, and one individual, Akash Moran, was detained for allegedly inciting the protest. “We are conducting a preliminary investigation and cannot share further details at this moment,” said a police official.
