Egyptian family of six rearrested after ICE release, lawyer warns of fast-track deportation despite court-ordered pause and ongoing asylum case An Egyptian family of six who had recently been released from immigration custody was rearrested Saturday, with their attorney warning they could face rapid deportation despite a court order temporarily pausing their removal. The family—Hayam El Gamal and her five children—had spent roughly ten months in the Dilley detention center outside San Antonio, Texas, where conditions have drawn criticism over access to food and medical care. A federal magistrate judge had ruled earlier this week that the family should be released while their asylum case proceeds after they entered the United States in 2022 on a tourist visa. Following Saturday’s rearrest, their attorney said they were placed on a flight to Michigan and could then be transferred for deportation to Egypt.  Tinubu’s Govt ‘must’ be allowed to continue for another six years — NBTE

The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, Idris Bugaje, on Friday called for the continuity of President Bola Tinubu’s government beyond the 2027 general elections.

He made this call in Abuja during the launch of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Initiative at the TETFUND Auditorium, which had in attendance the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa. Bugaje specifically told the gathering that Nigerians should give Tinubu’s administration another six years to continue with its developmental strides in the education sector.

“These are critical sectors that the government is committed and that is why I am saying that we must allow this government to continue for another six years,” he stated. Bugaje’s remarks come a week after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, announced this on Thursday during the party’s national summit in Abuja. “As the chairman of the party and on behalf of the National Working Committee – the only recognised platform, I believe, legally, to field a candidate in any election – I hereby affirm the various endorsements and declare President Bola Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the APC,” Ganduje said at the event attended by APC governors, ministers and other political heavyweights of the ruling party.

The event was to celebrate President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office, allowing members of the cabinet to showcase their achievements. While Tinubu’s policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira – the nation’s currency – has been criticised for hurting Nigerians, the APC stalwarts at the event said the president has done well and deserves a second and last term in office. “If this president has done well, is it not we (National Assembly) that will say so? If he has not done well, is it not we who will give him notice of impeachment?

“We are not giving him notice of impeachment, we are giving him notice that it was difficult for you in 2023, but in 2027, I see everything turning around, the number of states that are coming to join you,” Senate President Godswill Akpabio said at the summit.
