 New UK Prime Minister not the leader Britain needs — Kemi Badenoch UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, has congratulated Andy Burnham on becoming Britain’s new prime minister but said while he is “a nice man,” the country needs a leader capable of making difficult decisions rather than “a people pleaser.” In a statement released on Monday on X following Burnham’s assumption of office, Badenoch wished the new prime minister success but vowed to hold his government accountable as Leader of the Opposition. “Today, Britain has a new Prime Minister. I wish Andy Burnham every success. Because we need a Prime Minister and a Government focused on fixing the public’s priorities,” she said.  U.S. shuts Abuja Embassy, Lagos Consulate Office


The United States Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

The Memorial Day is a U.S. federal holiday held annually on the last Monday in May.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria announced the closure via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the day is set aside to honour American military personnel who died while serving their country.

Memorial Day is a solemn occasion in the United States, marked by ceremonies, flag displays, and tributes to fallen servicemen and women.

The closure affects all routine consular services at both the embassy and the consulate for the day.

Operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, May 27. The U.S. Mission advised individuals with urgent consular needs to consult its website for emergency contact information.
