 Setting the Records Straight on  Citizen Asar Michael Sesugh's  Death The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,  EFCC,  considered it imperative to clear the air on some recent incidents at its Makurdi Zonal Directorate,  Benue State.   Operatives of the Directorate arrested 26 suspected cyber fraudsters on April 28,  2026.  They were profiled and kept in custody for further investigations after obtaining a Remand Order at a Magistrate Court.  Shortly after their arrest,  specifically on May 4,  2026,  three of the suspects sought permission to use the lavatory at the Directorate's  Holding Facility and were permitted.   They cashed in on the opportunity,  broke the toilet's roof and escaped from detention.  Several efforts were made to re- arrest them to no avail.  U.S. shuts Abuja Embassy, Lagos Consulate Office


The United States Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

The Memorial Day is a U.S. federal holiday held annually on the last Monday in May.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria announced the closure via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the day is set aside to honour American military personnel who died while serving their country.

Memorial Day is a solemn occasion in the United States, marked by ceremonies, flag displays, and tributes to fallen servicemen and women.

The closure affects all routine consular services at both the embassy and the consulate for the day.

Operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, May 27. The U.S. Mission advised individuals with urgent consular needs to consult its website for emergency contact information.
