 An appreciation of the armed forces: weeklong actions across multiple theatres By Bayo Onanuga Some Nigerians and armchair analysts are often quick to criticise the Federal Government for perceived shortcomings in security, highlighting isolated incidents such as kidnappings, improvised explosive devices, suicide bombings, and attacks in parts of the country. Such perceptions, however, tend to downplay and discount the heroic exploits of members of the Nigerian armed forces, saddled with the responsibility of countering the evil machinations of God-forsaken non-state actors, who operate like guerrillas.  My position is reinforced by the security reports I receive daily from Zagazola Makama, a journalist who has emerged as a counter-insurgency expert in Nigeria. This past week alone, Zagazola inundated me with reports from multiple theatres, indicating that our troops are making significant gains in the asymmetrical war against insurgents, terrorists, ISWAP, Boko Haram, IPOB, ...

A FLORIDA FATHER MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE ON FATHER'S DAY.(PHOTO).

 A Florida father made the ultimate sacrifice on Father's Day.


33-year-old Antwon Wilson was enjoying Father's Day at the beach in Ft. Lauderdale with his daughters when everything changed for this family. Circumstances required their father to step up and show what a father's love means and Antwon did not hesitate. The incident unfolded shortly after 7 P.M. only minutes after lifeguards finished their last shift of the day.


As Antwon was in the water he noticed his young  daughter was struggling in the rough surf. When seconds counted and his young daughters life hung in the balance Antwon sprang into action.


Antwon struggled through the rough waters and managed to reach his daughter. He was then able to keep her afloat until 

lifeguards who fortunately hadn't left for the day, could make it to his daughter.


Sadly, after handing his daughter off to the lifeguards Antwon was immediately pulled underwater. Antwon was recovered from the water only minutes later.


Both father and daughter were rushed to Broward Health Medical Center where Antwon passed away. Antwon's young daughter is expected to make a full recovery. Her father's selfless act saved her life. 


Our thoughts are with the entire family. Rest in peace, Antwon.
