Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  Anambra Court orders Life Imprisonment to Security Personnel Who Rap€d 17yr-old Girl Hawking “Okpa” At Upper Iweka.


One Mr Michael Okoi, aged 23, who on 11th May 2024 at a Filling Station along Onitsha – Asaba Expressway, Upper Iweka, allegedly had unlawful s€xual int€rcourse with a 17yr-old girl hawking “Okpa” at the area, offence contrary  to Section 3(2) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition and Protection) Laws of Anambra State, 2017, has been Sentenced to Life Imprisonment For taking advantage of the vulnerability of the “young naïve girl who was on a survival quest in this harsh economy to ravage her womanhood.


The Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Court sitting at Awka and presided over by Justice Peace Otti, sentenced the perpetrator, Michael, to life imprisonment on count 1, and fined him two hundred thousand naira each on counts 2 and 3


Reacting to this, the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, has described this judgment as landmark the ‘life sentence judgement’ given in a case brought against a security personnel,


The Justice Commissioner noted that the judgement is one that sends a signal that the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration has zero tolerance for all forms of gender-based violence in the state.
