 Australia bans social media for under-16s in world-first move  Australia has implemented a sweeping ban on social media use for children under 16, marking a world-first move aimed at curbing teenage addiction to platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Under the new rules, social media companies and popular websites face fines of up to AU$49.5 million ($33 million) if they allow underage users to maintain accounts. The government says the measures are necessary to shield children from harmful content, including bullying, sexual material, and online predators. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized that social media “is often used as a weapon for bullies, a platform for peer pressure, a driver of anxiety, and a tool for online predators.” The law, effective Wednesday, immediately blocks hundreds of thousands of teenagers from accessing the apps they used daily.  CONCERN GROWS OVER ALLEGED KIDNAP OF ANGELA SALEM, SISTER TO LATE JOURNALIST, TORDUE SALEM

Concerns are mounting over the alleged abduction of Angela Salem, the sister of the late journalist Tordue Salem, who was reportedly kidnapped in Lagos on Wednesday.


A source close to the family revealed receiving a distressing phone call indicating that Angela has been missing for days. “I got a call that Angela Salem, the sister of our late brother Tordue Salem, was kidnapped in Lagos since Wednesday,” Krayzeetee Atu Terver  stated, adding, “I don’t know how to further confirm the information.”


Angela, a youth from Benue State, is well known in the community, and the news of her alleged disappearance has sparked worry among friends, relatives, and members of the Benue youth network.


The source urged friends, family, and the general public to attempt reaching out to Angela in order to confirm the situation and determine how best to assist.


Angela’s brother, the late Tordue Salem, was a journalist with Vanguard Newspapers who tragically died under controversial circumstances in 2021. His death had previously raised questions about safety and justice in the media and civil society space.
