 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  COURT GRANTS BAIL TO 70-YEAR-OLD MAN ACCUSED OF VANDALISING PUBLIC ASSET


A Magistrate Court in Bolade, Oshodi, on Monday granted bail to a 70-year-old suspect, Mr. Kayode Otitoju, who was arraigned on a two-count charge after he was arrested on Sunday at Lekki Phase 1 for vandalising an ongoing fence work project by the canal setback being undertaken by the State Government.


The Court granted the accused, who pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges preferred against him, bail after an application by the defence counsel, Oluwaseun Ettu, Esq., for bail on the most lenient terms, including N200,000 bond, One Surety, Presentation of three-year tax receipts and Verification of address.


The case has been adjourned to 25th July 2025 for commencement of the trial. However, the accused is yet to meet the bail conditions at the time of compiling this report.
