 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC).  Federal Government Postpones Paramilitary Recruitment to July 14, Warns Against Payment


The Federal Government has rescheduled the recruitment exercise for paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior from June 26 to July 14, 2025, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) announced on Wednesday.


In a statement, the CDCFIB disclosed that applications must now be submitted through the updated portal, recruitment.cdcfib.gov.ng. The board emphasized that the recruitment process is entirely free and warned applicants against making payments to any individuals or entities.


The CDCFIB apologized for any inconvenience caused by the postponement, urging candidates to adhere to the new schedule and use the official portal for applications. Further details on the recruitment process will be communicated through official channels, the board added.
