 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  Former NNPCL CFO Denies EFCC Arrest, Pledges Cooperation in $7.2 Billion Refinery Fraud Probe


Umar Ajiya Isa, former Chief Financial Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has refuted claims of his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $7.2 billion fraud linked to refinery operations.


In a statement released on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Isa clarified that he voluntarily appeared before the EFCC for questioning and was not detained. “I have not been arrested. I honored the agency’s invitation and cooperated fully,” he said, emphasizing his unblemished record during his tenure at NNPCL.


Isa vowed to continue cooperating with the EFCC as the investigation into the alleged fraud proceeds. The anti-graft agency has yet to comment publicly on the status of the probe or Isa’s involvement.
