 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC).  Governors’ Forum Condemns Killings in Benue Communities, Pledges Support for Peace


The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has vehemently condemned the recent killings in Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, describing the act as a “grievous affront to human dignity.”


In a statement issued on Monday by NGF Chairman, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, the forum expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and the Benue State government. “We stand in unwavering solidarity with those grieving at this time of profound sorrow,” the statement read. “We pray for the peaceful repose of the departed, divine comfort for families, speedy recovery for the injured, and resilience for survivors.”


The NGF pledged its full cooperation to assist the Benue State government and relevant authorities in restoring peace and security in the affected areas. It also called on Nigerians, regardless of creed or affiliation, to denounce such brutality and work toward a nation built on peace, justice, and mutual respect.


The forum extended its condolences to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, the government, and the people of the state for the devastating attack on the two communities, urging collective action to prevent further violence.
