Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  Katsina Gov Radda mourns Niger flood victims, condoles families


Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has expressed grief over the flood that ravaged Mokwa and surrounding communities in Niger State. The flood claimed the lives of at least 151 persons, displaced many, and destroyed homes and critical infrastructure, including roads and bridges.


Radda, in a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, commiserated with the Niger State Government as well as the families of the flood victims. “The news of the Mokwa flood disaster deeply grieves us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this unfortunate incident,” stated Governor Radda.


To the governor, “natural disasters is a reminder of our shared vulnerability and the importance of standing together during times of crisis.” He stated that Katsina stands in complete solidarity with her Niger State brothers and sisters during this difficult period. The governor stressed the need for enhanced flood management systems and disaster preparedness measures across northern Nigeria, particularly as the rainy season intensifies.


Radda offers fervent prayers for the souls of the departed, asking Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannatul Firdaos. The governor also prayed for Allah’s divine comfort and strength for the bereaved families as they cope with their irreplaceable losses.


“I pray for Allah’s protection over all Nigerian communities against future natural disasters and calamities,” the governor concluded.
