A Limpopo man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in front of his own mother will spend the next 20 years in prison. The Polokwane High Court sentenced 48 year old Nathaniel Molatelo Mokgehle from Sekonye Village in the Botlokwa policing area for the murder of his girlfriend, 41 year old Mokgadi Julia Mohlaela. The court heard he chased her out of the house and continued stabbing her until she collapsed and died. Mokgehle also received six months for malicious damage to property. The sentence will run at the same time as the 20 year murder sentence. Evidence presented in court showed the victim had previously opened a malicious damage to property case against him. He was still attending court for that case when the murder happened. The attack happened on 08 June 2025 around 16:00 at his mother’s home in Sekonye Village.  LASG BOOSTS EMERGENCY RESPONSE CENTRE WITH MAJOR TECH, INFRASTRUCTURE OVERHAUL

... Reaffirms Commitment to World-Class Safety Operations

The Lagos State Government has taken a bold step to modernise and strengthen its emergency response capabilities through significant technological and infrastructure upgrades at the Lagos State Command and Control Centre (LSCCC).

This was revealed recently by the General Manager of LSCCC, Mr. Femi Giwa, during a media briefing at the Centre’s Ikeja headquarters. He emphasised that the ongoing transformation is designed to enhance the coordination and effectiveness of first responders across the State.

“The Centre is currently undergoing major upgrades in both technology and infrastructure to boost our ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies,” he said.

According to him, since its inception in 2010, the LSCCC has served as the central hub for coordinating emergency services, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), among others.

The General Manager credited the current administration for prioritising emergency response innovation, noting that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s vision is to elevate the LSCCC into a world-class command centre through cutting-edge technology and strategic infrastructure development.

Giwa, therefore, extended appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his continued support since his appointment in October 2024, assuring Lagosians of the Centre’s unwavering commitment to their safety.

While urging the public to avoid placing prank or nuisance calls to the Centre, which could serve as obstacles to real-time crises, he warned that anybody caught engaging in these untoward acts will face prosecution by the State Government.
