Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, on Thursday called on Abia State Governor Alex Otti and other South East governors to unite in support of President Bola Tinubu, regardless of party affiliations. The plea came during a visit to Otti’s office in Umuahia, following an inspection of federal road projects in Abia, set for commissioning by the President later this year.
Umahi praised the longstanding relationship between Tinubu and Otti, emphasizing the President’s commitment to infrastructure development in the South East. “As Ndigbo and people of the South East, we have every reason to stand with President Tinubu, who is working to rewrite our history and relaunch us into the mainstream of the federal government,” Umahi said. He expressed confidence in the region’s governors, stating, “All the governors of the South East are standing with the President.”
The minister commended Otti for his administration’s high-quality road projects, particularly the reconstruction of the Port Harcourt Road. “I am very proud of what you are doing for Abia people, not only the quantum of projects but the quality. The Port Harcourt Road is mind-blowing,” Umahi said, noting that only Tinubu, “the man of infrastructure,” is fit to commission it. He also thanked Otti for supporting federal road projects, including the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, which faced challenges before Otti’s tenure.
Umahi urged Otti to assist with the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway carriageway, suggesting collaboration with the same contractors if needed. He emphasized the importance of state-federal partnerships for the benefit of citizens, regardless of political differences.
In response, Governor Otti reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with the federal government to deliver impactful infrastructure projects. “We will work together for the benefit of our people,” Otti said, assuring that his administration views state and federal efforts as one government serving the same people. He promised to have the Commissioner for Works assess the Enugu-Port Harcourt carriageway for further action.
