 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  ‎NYSC DG Warns Corps Members Against Criticising Federal Government in social media

‎Speaking during his visit to the Awgu Orientation Camp in Enugu State on Friday, June 20, the NYSC boss reminded corps members that they are serving under the authority of the federal government and are therefore expected to conduct themselves with discipline and respect throughout their service year.

‎

‎The director general of the NYSC, Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, warned corps members to maintain discipline on social media, has cautioned corps members against using social media or other public platforms to insult or criticise the federal government or the NYSC scheme.

‎

‎He advised corps members to adopt financial discipline and save a portion of their allowance for future ventures.

‎

‎The NYSC boss also urged the youths to prioritise nation-building and reconsider seeking opportunities abroad through the “japa” trend
