Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  Otti Attributes Re-election Prospects to Divine Will, Highlights Abia’s Development

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has stated that his potential bid for re-election in 2027 depends on divine guidance, emphasizing that his second term lies in the hands of God. Speaking at a grand civic reception and appreciation ceremony organized by the ‘Oha Isiala Ngwa People’ of Isiala Ngwa North and South Local Government Areas on Saturday, Otti expressed gratitude for the community’s support and endorsement for his performance in office.

Addressing calls for his re-election, Otti said, “Just as 2023 was in the hands of God, so too will 2027 be. I will consult with God, and as time goes on, my response will be made public.” He described the endorsements as recognition of his administration’s achievements, particularly in the Isiala Ngwa areas, while noting there is still much work ahead.

Otti highlighted his administration’s focus on Aba as a driver of economic growth, citing deliberate investments to harness the town’s potential. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, with ongoing development projects across the state. On the Abia Airport project in Nsulu, Otti clarified that its location was chosen based on technical merit, not politics, and confirmed that all affected landowners have received full compensation. He described the airport as “an ambitious development hub” aimed at delivering long-term economic benefits.

The governor addressed compensation disputes, stating, “If anyone has not been paid, it is not our fault. Perhaps they provided incorrect account details, or there are multiple claimants for the same land.”

The event saw commendations from prominent figures, including Okenze Chief Ginger Onwusibe (representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency), Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu (Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency), Mr. Obinna Anaba, Mr. Cyril Ishmael, and Dr. Ugochukwu Agu of the Ngwa National Association in the USA and Canada. They praised Otti’s performance and urged him to run again in 2027.

Otti, the Labour Party leader in Abia, also welcomed recent defectors from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, including Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu and his group, as well as the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, led by Chairman Eze Job, into the Labour Party fold.
