Repeat Offender Nabbed in Limpopo Anti-Smuggling Operation, Stolen Vehicle Worth R400,000 Recovered

A coordinated anti-smuggling operation in Limpopo has led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle valued at approximately R400,000 and the arrest of a repeat offender who was allegedly attempting to smuggle the vehicle across the Beitbridge Port of Entry.

The operation, conducted on Sunday, 23 June 2025, was carried out by the Provincial Tracking Team in collaboration with external law enforcement partners. The team acted on intelligence indicating that a vehicle stolen in Gauteng was being transported through Limpopo for smuggling purposes.

Surveillance was maintained until the suspect’s white Toyota Corolla Cross was spotted traveling along the R521 outside Vivo, within the Mara policing area. The vehicle was intercepted, and subsequent investigations confirmed it had been reported stolen from the Brooklyn policing area in Pretoria over the weekend.

A 29-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene. Notably, the suspect had previously been arrested in April 2024 for driving a stolen Toyota Hilux GD6 en route to Musina. He was released on bail by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court and is currently awaiting trial for that matter, scheduled for 28 July 2025 in the Polokwane Regional Court.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, on charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. Given his reoffending while out on bail, a motion to revoke his current bail is anticipated.
