 A Mother's Day Nightmare in Princeton, Illinois. A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire as police burst into a barricaded room, ending a frightening hostage situation. Multiple agencies responded to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Park in Princeton, Illinois, on Sunday, May 10th at 2:42 a.m. The initial call went out as a domestic disturbance but officers discovered much worse.  42-year-old, Anthony Rodriguez, had barricaded himself in a room armed with a knife. Anthony had taken several people as hostages, including Aurora Almanza and her 3-year-old son.  Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and  the Princeton Police Department.  Authorities attempted to negotiate but ultimately rushed the room when they heard screaming coming from inside.  Officials have reported that officers fired shots as they entered the room.  Swift Action by TRU Leads to Recovery of Hijacked Vehicle in Soweto


On Friday, 13 June 2025, at approximately 19:05, Tactical Response Unit (TRU) members on crime prevention patrol in Soweto responded to a complaint from a hijacking and kidnapping victim. The victim had spotted his hijacked Mercedes-Benz C63s, now bearing false number plates, on Rathebe Street in Orlando.


Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle along with a suspect, who claimed he had purchased the car from a friend for R20,000 but was unable to provide any details regarding the seller’s whereabouts.


Further inspection revealed that the vehicle’s VIN, license disc, and number plates had been tampered with. The suspect was arrested on the spot for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and is currently detained at Orlando SAPS.


Well done to the TRU team for their swift and effective response in recovering a high-profile stolen vehicle. Your dedication to public safety is commendable.
