S. A: THREE DANGEROUS AWAITING-TRIAL PRISONERS, PATRICK MBOMBI, THABO MOYE MAKGOPA, AND JAVAS MONGWE, ESCAPED FROM CUSTODY ON THE MORNING OF 24 JUNE 2025 AFTER OVERPOWERING OFFICERS ON DUTY AT THE LETSITELE POLICING PRECINCT. (PHOTOS).

Three dangerous awaiting-trial prisoners, Patrick Mbombi, Thabo Moye Makgopa, and Javas Mongwe, escaped from custody on the morning of 24 June 2025 after overpowering officers on duty at the Letsitele policing precinct.

The trio had been in custody for their alleged involvement in the brutal murder of Raymond Themba Mathebula, a former teacher at Kremetart Primary School who hailed from Bode Village, which took place in April last year. It is alleged that Mathebula’s wife, Mahlaule, hired the three men to kill her husband in order to benefit from an insurance payout.

Reports indicate that the suspects charged R200,000 for the murder, of which Mahlaule allegedly paid R10,000 upfront, promising to pay the balance upon receipt of the insurance money. Mahlaule and her three accomplices had been remanded in custody following several court appearances.

Authorities are urging members of the public not to approach the escaped suspects, as they are considered extremely dangerous, and to report any sightings to the nearest police station immediately.
