 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  Security Guard Arrested in Connection with N1 Shooting Incident Near Makhado


On 20 June 2025, at approximately 23:00, a 42-year-old male suspect, believed to be a security guard employed by a local security company, was arrested in Makhado in connection with a shooting incident that left a 28-year-old woman injured.


According to preliminary reports, the victim was travelling with family in a silver Toyota C-HR from Gauteng. As they approached the three-mile circle on the N1, their vehicle was allegedly stopped by an unknown vehicle. Sensing potential danger, the driver did not comply and instead executed a U-turn. The family continued driving before making another U-turn, heading back towards Makhado.


It was at this point, near the same location on the N1, that gunshots were reportedly fired at their vehicle, resulting in the woman sustaining injuries.


The suspect, identified as a 42-year-old security officer, was arrested at the scene. A Siga 7.62 rifle, believed to have been used in the shooting, was confiscated during the arrest.


The suspect is expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 June 2025.
