 Somali PM calls on Somaliland to cut Israel ties, urges reconciliation Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has called on Somaliland’s leadership to cut ties with Israel and to resolve disputes with the federal government through dialogue. Barre said relations among Somalis should be addressed through talks rather than confrontation, in remarks during a ceremony to mark the first anniversary of the establishment of North East State. In December 2025, Israel announced mutual recognition with Somaliland, a move strongly rejected by the Somali government as a breach of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and criticised by many countries across the world. “Regarding our brothers in Somaliland, I have nothing new to say.  Police Launch Manhunt After Elderly Couple Fatally Shot in Rustenburg


Police in Rustenburg have launched a manhunt following the brutal killing of an elderly couple in the parking lot of a shopping centre on the afternoon of Saturday, 14 June 2025.


Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple was fatally shot after a confrontation with the occupants of a white Kia Rio with no number plates. Paramedics declared both victims dead at the scene.


Police are appealing to members of the public who may have any information that could assist the investigation to contact Lt Col Mainganyo Nathaniël Phatsoane on 082 373 9571 or Lt Col Patrick Murunwa on 082 772 5999.
