 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville.  Senate Confirms Ex-Deputy Speaker as South-South Development Commission Chairman


The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, as Chairman of the newly established South-South Development Commission. The Senate also confirmed Usoro Offiong Akpabio from Akwa Ibom State as the Commission’s Managing Director, alongside 13 other board members and five executive directors.


The confirmation process, however, was not without controversy. The nominee representing the North-West, Tijani Kaura, was dropped after failing to submit required documentation and refusing to appear before the Senate screening committee. The committee, chaired by Senator Benson Konbowei (PDP, Bayelsa Central), noted in its report that Kaura could still be considered if he complies with the screening requirements in the future.


The appointments were finalized following the Senate’s adoption of the report by the Committee on South-South Development Commission.
