Senator Ned Nwoko Moves to Prosecute Social Media Influencer for Defamation

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has announced plans to pursue legal action against social media influencer Timothy Gabriel, alias Tuma, for alleged defamatory and misleading statements targeting him and his wife, actress Regina Daniels. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Ned Nwoko Media Directorate and shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

According to the statement, Gabriel’s provocative remarks, which included baseless accusations against the couple, were accompanied by a public dare for Nwoko and Daniels to respond or take legal action. Senator Nwoko stated that he has accepted the challenge and is moving forward with prosecution.

“No individual has the right to hurl baseless and vulgar accusations against another citizen and then hide behind social media antics or street protests to evade accountability,” Nwoko said. He described Gabriel’s statements as “vile, reckless, and malicious,” accusing the influencer of repeatedly spreading lies with the intent to damage their reputations.

The senator emphasized that freedom of speech does not extend to defamation, blackmail, or incitement, asserting that “the internet is not above the law.” He revealed that his legal team, also representing Regina Daniels, is preparing to pursue both criminal defamation and civil lawsuits, backed by what he described as “overwhelming” evidence.

Gabriel’s alleged comments, which included slanderous claims about paternity, morality, and fabricated personal “evidence,” were labeled as false, damaging, and criminally prosecutable by Nwoko. The lawmaker also cautioned those supporting Gabriel’s actions under the guise of human rights advocacy, stating that “freedom of speech does not include the right to lie and destroy.”

“Mr. Gabriel and any co-conspirators should prepare to face the law in the most decisive manner,” Nwoko warned, adding that the matter would be resolved in court, not on social media. He stressed that defamation should not be mistaken for activism and vowed to ensure accountability through the legal system.
