Australia bans social media for under-16s in world-first move  Australia has implemented a sweeping ban on social media use for children under 16, marking a world-first move aimed at curbing teenage addiction to platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Under the new rules, social media companies and popular websites face fines of up to AU$49.5 million ($33 million) if they allow underage users to maintain accounts. The government says the measures are necessary to shield children from harmful content, including bullying, sexual material, and online predators. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized that social media “is often used as a weapon for bullies, a platform for peer pressure, a driver of anxiety, and a tool for online predators.” The law, effective Wednesday, immediately blocks hundreds of thousands of teenagers from accessing the apps they used daily.  Some ‎Labour Party Members in Anambra Defect To APC to support Ukachukwu and Ekwunife

‎Labour Party (LP) members in Anambra State have defected to All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged to deliver their votes to Senator Nicholas Ukachukwu, the party’s governorship candidate in the November 8th 2025 election.

‎the leader of the defecting LP group, Hon Fab Ozoigbo, said the defectors cut across the state and expressed the hope that Ukachukwu would take the state out of poverty and insecurity.

‎Ozoigbo, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State and former Head of Logistics for the party’s National Campaign Organisation during the 2023 general elections, said he resigned from LP and joined APC, along with his followers to support Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as APC’s governorship candidate in Anambra State, describing Ukachukwu as a grassroots politician and philanthropist of note, adding that Ukachukwu’s popularity would boost the APC’s chances.

‎Another defector from Orumba South Local Government Area, Mazi Echemba, explained that the defecting members decided to support Ukachukwu because of his track records of achievements, philanthropic disposition and ability to provide democracy dividends and that LP members were convinced APC was the party to align with the ruling party at the centre, stressing change was imminent.
