 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms. The Kano State Police Command conducted a clearance operation in criminal hideouts in some parts of Kano Metropolis, including Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas, specifically Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters, between Friday, 13th and Sunday, 15th June 2025.


The three-day operation led to the arrest of fifty-one (51) suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The Command is fully determined to decisively tackle thuggery and its associated crimes.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, strongly warns against brandishing weapons in the name of traditional performances, including "Gangi," as well as displaying dangerous weapons on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X(Twitter), Instagram, etc. which encourages and recruits teenagers to engage in thuggery-related crimes.


The Command urges parents and guardians to monitor their children/wards' activities and report any suspicious behaviour as anyone caught committing such acts will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly. Parents who conspire with their children/wards to keep such dangerous weapons in their homes, and blacksmiths who fabricate such for them will be investigated as well.
