 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  San Rechal Gandhi, a 26-year-old model and former Miss Puducherry (2022), tragically died by suicide in Puducherry on Sunday. She passed away during treatment at JIPMER Hospital after being moved from a government hospital and a private facility. Rechal had reportedly consumed a large number of tablets while visiting her father’s home.


Police say that initial investigations suggest financial stress and personal struggles may have driven her to take the extreme step. She had recently sold her jewellery to manage her expenses and had also sought financial help from family members.


A suicide note was found at the scene, in which Rechal stated that no one should be blamed for her death. Given her recent marriage, authorities have ordered a Tahsildar-level inquiry to ensure all aspects are thoroughly examined.


Known for her active presence in the modelling industry, Rechal’s sudden death has shocked many in Puducherry and beyond. Police have confirmed that further investigations are underway to fully understand the circumstances surrounding her death.
