 Rape Suspect Escapes from Police Custody in Rivers State A male suspect, identified simply as Goodnews, who allegedly defiled a 16-year-old girl in the Rupokwu community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, last week, has escaped from police custody. The case was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt. It was gathered that the suspect escaped when the scene of the crime was visited as part of the investigation procedures. The suspect was earlier arrested by operatives of the Special Area Rumudomaya and transferred to the State CID, Port Harcourt, last week. According to the father of the alleged defilement victim, Mr. Prince, when they arrived at the scene of the crime, which is their compound, the suspect, who was not handcuffed by the Investigating Police Officer, was having difficulty opening the padlock on his door. The United States Department of State on Tuesday announced an update to its non-immigrant visa policy for Nigerians and other African citizens.

According to a statement by the US Embassy in Abuja on Tuesday, “most non-immigrant and non-diplomatic visas issued to citizens of Nigeria will be single-entry visas with a three-month validity period.”

The new visa restrictions take immediate effect.

However, the embassy clarified that “those US non-immigrant visas issued before July 8, 2025, will retain their status and validity.”
