A Florida man has been indicted on homicide charges after authorities allege he repeatedly punched a 1-year-old girl, taking her life.

25-year-old Deric Young was indicted on charges of first-degree m*rder and aggravated child a**** with great bodily harm on Monday, July 21st. Young had previously refused to make his first court appearance on two separate occasions.

These charges are in connection to the June 23rd death of Ky'meria German.  First responders were called to a Tallahasse home to the report of a child not breathing. Ky'meria was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was ultimately pronounced deceased.

As police began to investigate, they uncovered signs of what they believed to be foul play. An autopsy was performed the next day, revealing Ky'meria had suffered multiple strikes to the head with a closed fist.

Investigators quickly shifted their attention to Deric Young, who had been left with Ky'meria and her siblings when their babysitter had to leave the home.

While interviewing Deric, he burst into tears before admitting to striking Ky'meria.   According to Deric, he stated he "had smoked Marijuana before deciding he wanted to play with Ky'meria". Deric was arrested the day after Ky'meria's death.

Ky'meria's twin brother was in the room when the incident occurred but was unharmed. There is no motive known at this time.

Our thoughts are with Ky'meria's family as they struggle to cope with this unimaginable loss.
