 Rita Daniels Loses AGN Presidency To Abubakar Yakubu Abubakar Yakubu has emerged as the new president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) after narrowly defeating Rita Daniels in a closely contested election. The poll was held on Saturday during the guild’s annual general meeting in Benin City, Edo State. Yakubu secured 116 votes to beat Daniels, who polled 113 votes, while three votes were declared invalid. The veteran actor and administrator takes over from Emeka Rollas. His victory is historic, as he becomes the first AGN president from northern Nigeria since the guild’s official registration in 1998. Yakubu previously served as national secretary from 2019 to 2025 and has also held other positions including national vice president, national treasurer, and public relations officer.  Angela Okorie issues apology to Mercy Johnson, Hubby, Ned Nwoko, ignores Regina Daniels


Nigerian social media users have flooded Angela Okorie’s page following her public apology to former friend Mercy Johnson, her husband, and politician Ned Nwoko.


For years, Angela Okorie openly criticized Mercy Johnson, leveling serious accusations against her and her family. She made several harsh claims about the actress and her mother, insisting they were far from blameless.


The conflict extended to Mercy’s husband, whom Angela also insulted. When actress Regina Daniels attempted to mediate, Angela redirected her anger toward Regina’s husband, Ned Nwoko, referring to him as an old man. The heated exchange drew widespread attention and commentary across social platforms.


In a surprising turn, Angela recently took responsibility for her past behavior and issued a heartfelt apology in a detailed social media post.

Angela Okorie wrote: “Hi beautiful people, these past days have been a period of intense reflection for me. Lately , having reminisced on certain events that had transpired, I can only thank God that I am alive. It’s no secret that there have been some difficult issues circulating on social media between Mercy Johnson and myself; Moving forward, I would like to address this matter.”


“I am human, and when my emotions take over, I speak from the heart, often saying things directly as they come to me, especially when I felt hurt. Once I’ve expressed myself, I forget about it and move on, but I realize now that my utterances whether uttered from the place of pain or not was hurtful.”


“Some events that has happened these past days made me realize that I should have done better. I feel so sorry having realized how this gets to you, Mercy. Your mental health is very important now and ever & I wouldn’t wish you and your family worse, that’s not my nature, and you know it, Do find a place in your heart to forgive me.”
