Texas man arrested with 75 pounds of marijuana in luggage while flying to London, police say A Texas man was arrested at Miami International Airport after authorities found 75 pounds of marijuana in his luggage before he could board a flight to London. Harrison O’Neill Tiernan, 23, from Austin, was charged with cannabis trafficking. He was traveling to Heathrow Airport and had checked two suitcases for his British Airways flight. Inspectors discovered 65 vacuum-sealed packages containing a green, leafy substance later confirmed to be marijuana. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped Tiernan while he attempted to board the flight, and he acknowledged that the bags were his. Authorities noted the inspections were part of broader efforts at the airport due to high outbound narcotics activity. In total, Tiernan was carrying 34.01 kilograms, or 74.98 pounds, of marijuana. COMMUNAL CLASH: OBUDU TRADITIONAL RULERS SUE FOR PEACE, TRANCE KILLING TO GANG REVENGE

26th July, 2025

The Obudu Urban one Traditional Rulers Council has called on the Federal Government and the Government of Cross River, Benue State and the National Boundary Commission to swiftly find a lasting solution to the seventy-five (75) years old boundary dispute rocking Abonkib and Mbazerem communities.

The Traditional Rulers stated this in a press statement unanimously signed by the Council on 22 July 2025, frowning against imbalance reportage, urging conflicting parties to shield their sword and give peace a chance in their communities.

The statement read: “The attention of the Obudu Urban I Traditional Rulers Council has been drawn to the bad press being carried out by those who seek and publish information from only one side of a crisis of this nature i.e, the Abonkib Community of Obudu LGA of Cross River State and Mbazerem Community of Vandeikya LGA of Benue State boundary dispute.

“While the Traditional Council condemns the senseless killing of the commercial driver of Benue origin and call on the law enforcement agencies to go all out and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.

“The event that led to the killing was likened to cult group revenge. The forest (boundary) killing of Nicholas Akiekeye and Akeh Ingio, both cultists by the Mbazerem community, we believed was responsible for the reprisal attack that was said to be fatal.

“In all through the records of hostilities between the Abonkib Community of Obudu and Mbazerem Community of Vandikya LGA’s, it has never been seen or heard that what happened in the forest (boundary) spilled over to the street of Obudu. It should be further understood that no commission of enquiry since the frequent skirmishes between both communities began in 1950 has ever indicted the Abonkib Community as an aggressor. We believed strongly that the security agencies will fish out the culprits and allow full scale investigation into what took place in the forest (boundary) between the

two communities.

“At this point, we call on the relevant authorities at both local, state and federal levels to once and for all, find a lasting solution to the seventy-five (75) years old boundary dispute.

“The national boundary commission, the governors of both states and chairmen of Vandeikya and Obudu LGAs as a matter of urgent consideration act to forestall lasting peace to the affected communities.”

They called on all concerned to put on the armor of peace and live as brothers and sisters in one accord saying:

“Let us live in an area that is without boundaries as we visualize as our forefathers once lived. We urge and call on all of us to shield the sword and let us enjoy peace in our communities. This we believe is better than searches at the beginning of each crisis either in the bush or in any small community around Obudu or Tiv.”
