South-East Group Asks Obi to Step Down for Tinubu The South-East chapter of the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria, RHGN, says it will approach prominent Igbo leaders to persuade Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election and support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. The group’s leader, Franklin Ngoforo, disclosed this after a meeting on Saturday focused on securing victory for Tinubu across the five South-East states. Ngoforo said the group plans to engage the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo under John Mbata, as well as elder statesmen including former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Emeka Anyaoku, and former Chief of General Staff, Ebitu Ukiwe. He said the leaders would be encouraged to lead a delegation to Obi and persuade him to step down from the presidential race in the interest of the region and Nigeria.
