 Russia launches massive drone and missile barrage on Ukraine, killing at least 18 civilians and striking Kyiv and multiple cities  Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 18 civilians and wounded more than 100 others across multiple cities, officials said Tuesday. The strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions, with emergency crews working through destroyed residential buildings where some victims were trapped under rubble. In Dnipro, rescuers recovered the bodies of a 3-year-old child and a mother and her 8-year-old son, while officials reported 12 deaths in the city and six in Kyiv. The bombardment stretched from night into daylight, with explosions reported across wide areas of the country.  SANWO-OLU MOURNS EX-LAGOS LAWMAKER, VICTOR AKANDE


 

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the passing of a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Akande, who died on Wednesday.


 


The Governor described the death of Hon. Akande, a lawyer who represented Ojo State Constituency I during the Eighth and Ninth Assemblies, as a shocking and devastating loss to him personally and the people of Ojo and Lagos State.


 


Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, on Thursday, commiserated with the deceased’s family, friends, and political associates, especially in the Ojo Constituency I, where the late Akande represented for eight years.


 


He said, “On behalf of my family, the state government, and the people of Lagos State, I mourn the passing of Hon. Victor Akande. The news of his death came as a shock to me. It was a great loss to his family, our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the people of Ojo and Lagos State at large.


 


“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, political associates, professional colleagues, and members of our party, APC, on the passing of Hon. Victor Akande.


 


“We have lost a committed and selfless politician, who spent his life to serve humanity, particularly the people of Ojo State Constituency I, whom he represented at the Lagos State House of Assembly for eight years.


 


"He did his best for Lagos State as a lawmaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Petitions, and LASIEC during his sojourn in the Assembly.


 


“I pray that God will grant the soul of our beloved Hon. Victor Akande eternal rest and comfort the immediate and political family of the deceased with the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.”
