 Rape Suspect Escapes from Police Custody in Rivers State A male suspect, identified simply as Goodnews, who allegedly defiled a 16-year-old girl in the Rupokwu community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, last week, has escaped from police custody. The case was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt. It was gathered that the suspect escaped when the scene of the crime was visited as part of the investigation procedures. The suspect was earlier arrested by operatives of the Special Area Rumudomaya and transferred to the State CID, Port Harcourt, last week. According to the father of the alleged defilement victim, Mr. Prince, when they arrived at the scene of the crime, which is their compound, the suspect, who was not handcuffed by the Investigating Police Officer, was having difficulty opening the padlock on his door.  GOVT STOPS MOVE TO SUSPEND OTUKPO CHAIRMAN, CALLS EMERGENCY MEETING

The Benue State Government has directed legislators from Otukpo Local Government Area of the state to stop further actions against Council Chairman, Maxwell Ogiri.


The directive was given by the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Sam Ode, for the suspension of all actions taken by the Otukpo Legislative Council and the Otukpo Executive Council against the chairman.
