Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive. ✈️ Russia Plane Crash Kills All 50 On Board in Remote Amur Region

Date: July 24, 2025

Location: Tynda, Amur Region, Russia

Aircraft: Antonov An‑24 (built in 1976)

Operator: Angara Airlines

Fatalities: 48 (42 passengers, including 5 children, and 6 crew members). Updated to 50.

šŸ”ŗ What Happened?

A tragic plane crash occurred in Russia’s far eastern Amur region when a Soviet-era Antonov An-24 aircraft operated by Angara Airlines crashed while attempting a second landing near Tynda Airport. The aircraft disappeared from radar around 1:05 PM local time, and rescue teams later discovered the charred wreckage in a forested, mountainous area about 15 km south of the airport. All 48 people on board perished.

🌧️ Weather and Conditions:

Poor weather with heavy rain and fog played a major role in the crash. Early reports suggest pilot error may also have contributed during the second landing attempt. The aircraft had reportedly made one unsuccessful landing before circling back.

šŸ›©️ About the Aircraft:

The Antonov An-24, a twin turboprop, was more than 50 years old and is still in use across Russia’s remote regions. Nicknamed the “flying tractor,” it is known for its ability to land on short, unpaved runways but is no longer widely used globally. Due to Western sanctions and limited spare parts, Russia continues to operate many older Soviet-designed aircraft.

⚖️ Investigation and Government Response:

 • Russian authorities have opened a criminal investigation into violations of aviation safety laws.

 • Amur Governor Vasily Orlov declared three days of mourning.

 • President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the victims’ families.

 • China’s President Xi Jinping also sent a message of sympathy.

⚠️ Bigger Picture:

This disaster raises serious concerns about the safety of aging aircraft still in operation across Russia. Although the Russian government has announced the production of a new domestic aircraft model, Ladoga, it is not expected to be ready before 2027.
