 Putin woos African leaders at showcase summit, says Russia is better partner than 'colonial' West President Vladimir Putin told African leaders ​on Wednesday that Russia was their best partner, accusing what he cast as a colonial West of still trying ‌to exploit the continent's resources and using debt to hold back development, Reuters reported. The Kremlin chief was speaking at the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, a two-day event attended by African leaders and government delegations from 48 countries, during which he will hold one-on-one talks with many of the 22 individual African leaders ​attending on everything from trade to security, arms deals and grain supplies.  PROF. NENTAWE YILWATDA IS APC NEW NATIONAL CHAIRMAN 


Professor Nentawe Yilwatda is the new national chairman of the ruling APC. He is replacing Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who resigned from the position a few weeks ago.


Yilwatda emerged as the party chairman following a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and APC governors on Wednesday. His appointment will be ratified by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) later. 


Yilwatda, 56, is from Plateau State and contested the state election in 2023. With the president and vice-president being Muslims, it was accepted that the APC chairman should be a Christian.


"He is young, suave, well-educated, and doesn’t carry the usual political baggage,” an internal source said. “We believe he can give the party a new face and restore credibility ahead of future elections.”
