Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. Starmer says UK will recognize Palestinian state if Israel does not agree to ceasefire

Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Tuesday that the U.K. plans to recognize a Palestinian state in September unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza and takes meaningful steps toward a lasting peace. Starmer convened a rare summer Cabinet meeting to address the escalating crisis in Gaza and outline the government’s stance.

He told ministers that Britain will move forward with recognizing Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly if the Israeli government does not take significant action to end the humanitarian crisis, agree to a ceasefire, renounce any plans to annex parts of the West Bank, and commit to a peace process aimed at achieving a two-state solution. While the U.K. has historically supported a negotiated two-state solution, calls to formally recognize Palestinian statehood have intensified following French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that France will recognize Palestine in September, making it the first major Western nation to do so.
